More good news in from the Sydney Eisteddfod committee. DBS’ Open Lyrical piece ‘The Eye of the Beholder’ has been selected as a finalist for the Dance of Champions competition, held in Sydney in September!
The Dance of Champions features the best group routines selected amongst hundreds of place getters who were successful at the McDonalds Sydney Eisteddfod which is held over four months. The selected groups compete against one another for a prize pool worth over $20,000. Audience members will vote on the night for their favourite routine to win a shot at the ‘People’s Choice Award’. A ‘Judge’s Choice Award’ is also selected on the night by a panel of industry professionals for a share in the prize money.
The event is filmed by Channel Ten and will broadcast on the network at 2:00pm on Sunday November 1 2015.
DBS’ lyrical routine will compete against many full time schools performing across all genres of dances including; musical theatre, contemporary, tap, jazz, classical and more!
After their performance at the McDonalds Ballet Scholarship Finals held at the Sydney Opera House earlier this month, the Sydney Eisteddfod Committee had no doubt that DBS’ lyrical routine held a deserving spot in the upcoming competition.
This will be the third time that DBS has been selected for the Dance of Champions. The other opportunities were offered in 2008 for the Open Lyrical ‘Victory Rose’, and again in 2011, another Open Lyrical routine ‘The Last Gasp’, which took out first prize for the ‘People’s Choice Award’.
